nav For almost 20 years, Alan Jay VanEss has
focused his artwork on the homes and cars
of his customers.

Previously working from New York, Chicago,
and now from the San Francisco area,
Alan has been commissioned to create house
and automobile portraits.

His range of paintings include homes of many
architectural styles.

Alan's earliest art interests involved architecture,
automobiles, and evocative settings and landscapes.

These favorites developed in his art education
at the University of Wisconsin.

While teaching near Chicago, Alan raised boy
and girl twins with his wife. He also developed
his twin specialties in painting of homes and
collector's automobiles. In car art, Alan's
clients are mainly owners of Citroens,
Ferraris, Lamborghini, Corvette, and Porsche.

Alan's art is currently displayed at the
Moraga Art Gallery in Moraga, California.

Artist's Statement

"I continue to develope my painting, attempting to evoke a naturalistic mood. Sometimes a more dramatic ambiance suits the subject of the art; other subjects seem to benefit from a tranquil setting. I have rules in deciding a perspective on a house or other portrait, but thankfully I've been open to clients choices. Very often those ideas have been extremely good. Elements of my art usually emphasize movement, flow, and the transforming nature of lighting and colors. I tend to think such appreciation comes from my immersion in a rural life in my youth. My intention to realistic details is balanced with a concern for the balance and other nuances in the composition. I'm gratified that my clients approve of my instincts and techniques in their resulting artwork."
